The Mockingbird has a fantastic snack selection with loads of options to pair with your movie. But .. if you’re attending a ‘Movie with Wine’ event, your snack choice could have a disastrous effect on the taste of your wine if you get it wrong or enhance the experience if you get it right.
Fear not!
Our handy wine and snack pairing guide will help you avoid any costly mistakes so you can find the perfect snacks to compliment your wine tasting experience.
Super sweet treats
First up, and this is coming from a certified wine gum gremlin, anything so sweet is likely to make your wine taste sour, even sweet dessert wines. We’d recommend you avoid these. Sorry!
Salty snacks - good with fizz and whites
We always start with a drop of something dry and fresh. It’s almost always fizz. With a dry and fresh wine, sparkling or not, salty snacks are going to work fantastically. Think Sea Salted Popcorn, Salted Popcorn, Salted Crisps or Salt and Vinegar Crisps. Even Sweet and Salty popcorn should be ok.
Most crisps and salty snacks are a good match for most white wines, but especially good pairings are something spicy (e.g. Sweet Chilli) with an aromatic white and anything cheesy will be great with a full bodied, rich whites.
BBQ, Chorizo, Sweet Chilli flavoured crisps and snacks - good with fruity reds
These should work with our red wines, especially a red from a warm climate with a touch of sunkissed sweetness in the grapes like a wine from the Americas, Australia, South Africa etc.
Chocolate - great with ports and fruity, warm climate reds
Chocolate is sweet but often, warmer climate wines, particularly those aged in oak offer hints of cocoa and chocolate on the palate.
Both Ruby or Tawny Ports should pair well with chocolate.
We look forward to seeing you at our next Movie with Wine event at the Mockingbird and let us know what you think of the pairings if you try them.
Yours in wine (and snacks), Tony and team
