The Trivia
Movie release was actually a flop, Meat Loaf attended a screening with the director where they found themselves the only ones in the screen.
Midnight screenings popular from the mid 70’s, word of mouth grew and the movie became what is possibly the greatest cult hit ever.
A cinema in Munich has screened every week since ’77 offering RHPS kits including a biscuit for the toast, rice, a whistle, a candle for ‘there’s a light’ and instructions for the time warp.
This was Lady Di’s favourite movie and she requested to meet Tim Curry.
Originally a stage production, Tim Curry, Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quin and Nell Cambell are in both.
Make up styles created by David Bowie’s stylist.
Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon were dating during filming.
Scene where Barry bangs the table, he hits Susan’s hand and you see her reaction. She gets revenge with a stiletto on his foot in a dance sequence and they kept it in the movie.
Curry originally played Frank with a German accent but after hearing an exaggerated English accent on a bus that sounded like the Queen, he mashed it with his mother’s telephone voice.
Rocky actor Peter Hinwood had his belly button covered as he was invented not born with an umbilical chord.
Hinwood went on to become an antiques dealer, slightly embarrassed by the role, rumour has it threw fans out of his store.
He found his gold pants at home in early 90’s and sold to auction, now in a hard rock café.
The budget for costumes was far higher than the rest of the production.
Filming took place between Oct-Dec. Cast were always wet due to a leak in the castle and only one room in the castle heated. The cast would go to warm up until it caught fire!
Riff Raff actor / Crystal Maze host Richard O.Brien created Rocky Horror Show from his love of Sci fi & horror.
In the stage show Dr Everett & nephew Eddie are both played by the same actor, Meatloaf was apparently gutted he couldn’t do both.
To film the motorbike on stairs they put Meatloaf in a wheel chair with bike handles & a camera then pulled it along on a rope. Unfortunately the rope broke and he cut his head.
Was due to be a much bigger budget movie cast with famous American musicians but Director Sharman wanted to keep the original cast. They had to compromise with a smaller budget but must cast Americans for Brad and Janet.
Mick Jagger wanted to play Frank in the movie!
Elvis apparently wanted to play Eddie!?
Susan appeared in the movie quite accidentally appearing on set to wish good luck to the Director. However, she was pressured to audition after showing great humour on the set and recreating some of the sequences. When she told them she couldn’t sing they got her to sing happy birthday, which she did and they claimed that was enough to win the role.
